Internal Maintenance Worker - Full Time
About The Position
The Internal Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of the interior property of Mall of America while helping provide a memorable shopping and entertainment experience. The role includes preventive and general maintenance; basic carpentry, construction, painting, tiling, flooring, signage, fixture, door, and hardware work; commercial plumbing repairs; and recording and updating maintenance requests in the Work Order system. The worker places and installs holiday and event décor, supports internal and marketing and entertainment events, and may use aerial lifts or ladders to hang banners and guide wires. The position requires maintaining a safe work area, following local and state building codes, and assisting other maintenance departments as needed. Temporary adjusted seasonal shifts, including nights and weekends, are required for holiday setups.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- 3–5 years of experience in building maintenance or construction.
- Previous work experience with commercial painting, ceramic tiling, carpentry, and plumbing.
- Working knowledge of a variety of powered and non-powered tools, workshop equipment, and hand tools used in carpentry, construction, plumbing, and related work.
- Ability to read and understand maps and schematics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to tolerate working at heights of 12–85 feet on ladders and in an aerial lift.
- Basic computer skills.
Nice To Haves
- Graduation from a trade, technical, or vocational school with a degree in building maintenance or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of Mall of America’s interior property.
- Perform basic carpentry and construction tasks, including painting, tiling, sheetrock repairs, carpet tile replacement, flooring repairs and replacement, and installation or repair of signage, fixtures, doors, hardware, metal studs, and framing.
- Inspect Mall of America property and document maintenance or repair needs in the Work Order system; update work orders when tasks are completed.
- Perform commercial plumbing repairs, identify and repair leaks, fix toilets, sinks, and faucets, and clear drain stoppages.
- Locate sources of tenants’ plumbing leaks and report concerns to and relay them to the sourced contractor.
- Place, hang, and set Mall holiday and event décor, including work on aerial lifts or ladders.
- Set up internal, marketing, and entertainment events, including organizing stanchions, setting up and taking down staging, placing and removing tables and chairs, and performing special assembly or construction.
- Operate aerial lifts to hang guide wires and banners during event and seasonal setups.
- Ensure the safety of the immediate work area and surrounding areas.
- Follow local and state building codes.
- Assist other maintenance departments as needed.
- Work temporarily adjusted seasonal shifts for holiday setups, including nights and weekends.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
