About The Position

Ayar Labs is seeking a motivated PhD graduate intern to work on integrated semiconductor lasers, with a focus on device modeling and characterization. The intern will develop laser models to understand and optimize the performance limits of advanced laser design configurations integrated onto different material platforms. They will test state-of-the-art lasers and analyze measurements to extract key parameters that can inform design improvements for high-performance integrated laser systems. Projects will be tailored to the intern’s experience and interests, with mentorship from Ayar Labs scientists and engineers. The work will support development of semiconductor lasers for optical I/O.

Requirements

  • Strong programming skills in Python with the scientific stack, including NumPy, pandas, and matplotlib.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor laser physics and optoelectronic device characterization, including LIV and optical spectra.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively, self-manage time effectively, and take projects to completion.
  • Actively pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics/Photonics, Applied Physics, or an equivalent field.

Responsibilities

  • Model and characterize integrated semiconductor lasers.
  • Develop laser models to understand and optimize performance limits of advanced laser design configurations on different material platforms.
  • Test state-of-the-art lasers and analyze measurements to extract key parameters for design improvements.
