About The Position

The IT Support Technician Intern provides technical support for desktop hardware, software, and related technologies while assisting with troubleshooting and issue resolution. This role helps maintain a reliable technology environment by supporting end users, managing service requests, and ensuring computing equipment is properly configured and operational. The intern also assists with hardware and software inventory management, supports technology research initiatives, and helps maintain IT lab and storage areas. This position offers hands-on experience in technical support, asset management, and IT operations while working closely with technology teams to deliver effective user support.

Requirements

  • Support-level knowledge in Windows 10 operation systems and/or iOS
  • Basic knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, Subnetting, Routing, DHCP, and DNS
  • In-depth knowledge of PC hardware and software and must be able to correct PC related problems in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate the capacity for organization and prioritization in a technical environment
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical skills with an ability to evaluate problems and issues, make recommendations for courses of action
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work well with others in teams and collaborative work situations
  • Ability to accept change and adapt to organizational change and shifting priorities
  • Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work
  • Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance, and bias
  • Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights
  • Familiarity with AI assisted research, summarization, and content generation
  • Understanding of responsible AI use, including ethics and data protection
  • Experience 1-2 years' related experience and/or training in enterprise technical support; equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • Must be a current student pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Statistics with at least one semester remaining upon start of the internship.
  • Must possess a minimum of a 3.0 (out of a 4-point scale) overall GPA.

Nice To Haves

  • Junior or Senior classification preferred.
  • Working towards a professional certification a plus (i.e. A+, NET+) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, configure, support, and implement desktop computing hardware and software technologies
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, provide technical support, and facilitate trouble tickets
  • Research and development of future technologies for use at GM Financial
  • Execute hardware, software, and licensing inventory tracking and control
  • Maintains the ITS lab and storage areas ensuring each area is cleaned and organized This includes maintaining a record of borrowed lab/storage room equipment
  • Maintains spare computers and monitors for quick replacement until malfunctioning unit can be repaired or replaced
  • Perform other duties as assigned
