About The Position
McCarthy Improvement (MCI) is seeking a Fleet Data Analytics Intern for Summer 2027. This role, based in Davenport, Iowa, is for individuals pursuing a college degree in data analytics, business analytics, information systems, or a related field. The position is full-time, scheduled for 32-40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule accommodating school timelines. The intern will help understand fleet usage and identify areas for improvement for MCI's fleet of over 300 heavy equipment pieces. The role involves approximately 50% office work analyzing data and 50% field work verifying data against actual equipment.
Requirements
- Ability to prioritize work and meet project deadlines
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office products, including Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Clean driving record and valid driver's license
Nice To Haves
- SQL, Power BI, or Tableau experience
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze equipment usage data (utilization, idle time, hours logged) across the fleet
- Build reports and dashboards to help identify underused or overworked equipment
- Spend time in the filed confirming data accuracy against actual machine hours and condition
- Support decisions on equipment replacement, reallocation, and purchasing
- Collaborate with the equipment and operations teams to translate data into actionable recommendations
