About The Position

The Intermodal Service Coordinator is the day-to-day point of contact for booking loads and dispatching shipments through all interchanges. You’ll apply your intermodal expertise – shipping methods, carrier costs, products, and services – to meet and exceed customer expectations on every order. Duties may evolve based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of intermodal experience in the transportation industry.
  • Thorough understanding of intermodal procedures across North America.
  • Strong knowledge of North American geography.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word).
  • Working knowledge of transportation management software such as SAP or AS400.
  • Customer focus: demonstrated commitment to delivering timely, high-quality service to internal and external customers.
  • Communication: clear and effective verbal and written communication.
  • Organization: ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage competing demands.
  • Collaboration: ability to work cooperatively and respectfully with colleagues.
  • Negotiation: strong negotiation skills with carriers and vendors.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in Logistics, Business, or a related field is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Canadian and U.S. customs procedures is an asset, as is experience with cross-border transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Meet customer requirements at every stage of the order lifecycle.
  • Analyze load information to determine and verify the best routes and rates, then enter accurate data into the system.
  • Keep customers, Operations, and Sales informed of developments – positive and negative – throughout each order.
  • Maintain detailed account notes documenting each customer’s specific requirements.
  • Source equipment using cost-effective routings that satisfy customer requirements and comply with profitability guidelines.
  • Coordinate with Pricing and Equipment Capacity to secure equipment options and power.
  • Build and maintain carrier relationships; communicate drayman changes to the Pricing department.
  • Ensure all order details in the system are complete and accurate.
  • Manage pickups and obtain required paperwork, including bills of lading and customs documents.
  • Prepare and transmit rail instructions by EDI or fax; stay current on changing rail requirements.
  • Use third- and fourth-party websites to accept load tenders and enter status updates, appointments, and accessorial charges.
  • Trace and monitor shipments to support on-time performance.
  • Communicate ETAs and appointment information to customers.
  • Resolve load-related issues as they arise; escalate when necessary.
  • Reschedule deliveries as needed and coordinate load status for high-volume customers with the Tracing Team.
  • Manage accessorial and equipment charges and follow up with customer, drayman, and Accessorial Administrator.
