About The Position

Intermediate Cooks work across kitchen stations and use kitchen equipment. Depending on the venue, the role may involve batch production, high-volume à la carte service, preparation, pantry, and banquets. Cooks ensure food quality, quantity, and appealing presentation; follow standard products, recipes, and techniques; handle and store food safely; and keep their work areas and equipment clean and maintained. The role is based at the Oasis at Death Valley in Death Valley National Park.

Requirements

One to two years of cooking experience.
Expertise as a pantry worker, prep cook, fry cook, egg cook, broiler cook, sauté cook, and butcher.
Attention to detail to ensure safety and minimize food waste.
Professionalism and the ability to follow instructions with follow-up, respect, and integrity.
Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
Ability to perform the listed physical activities, including standing, walking, handling items, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and talking or hearing.

Responsibilities

Ensure the quality, quantity, and eye-appealing presentation of all menu items.
Properly store and handle food products and promote safe, sanitary food-handling practices.
Clean, maintain, and store kitchen equipment according to standards.
Maintain open and positive communication with staff daily.
Prepare and present food using standard products, recipes, and techniques.
Maintain food in process at appropriate temperatures and store it covered, labeled, and dated.
Clean and maintain the work area throughout each shift.
