About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional clinical social work or marriage and family therapy services in support of the Family Advocacy Program (FAP). Duties include designing, developing, coordinating, and implementing the secondary prevention component of FAP. The role is responsible for case management activities from initial referral and counseling through case closure or transfer. The position also involves providing professional advisory services and training to other health care professionals, installation personnel, and community agencies concerning secondary prevention programs, and serving as a community liaison with military and civilian agencies. The role requires independent performance of crisis intervention services to ensure the safety of victims of family maltreatment and prevent further harm. This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled and classified to the series represented by the candidate that meets the qualifications of one of the listed series. The position has been identified as having "regular contact with children".

  • Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S Virgin Islands.
  • Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice marriage and family therapy independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S Virgin Islands.
  • A FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check will be completed on any person selected for this position.
  • Must have two years of experience working in the field of child abuse and domestic abuse as an independent Licensed Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • Must maintain independent active clinical privileges for the duration of employment.
  • Government civilian providers must meet all applicable credentialing requirements IAW MTF guidelines and be fully qualified to perform within the scope of their practice.
  • Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must have actively practiced as an independent Licensed Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist within the past two years.
  • Successfully completed a master's degree with a major in social work or fulfilled all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
  • One (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems.
  • Applying a professional knowledge of clinical social work and family therapy practices, principles, and theories to carry full professional responsibility for cases involving a wide range of psychosocial, and environmental issues.
  • Providing knowledge in the organization, management, and administration of child and family welfare services to participate in program planning and in the development and maintenance of public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies.
  • Using knowledge of a wide array of problems and disorders of children and families, and the varied resources needed to treat them.
  • Applying professional diagnostic skills to individuals and families.
  • Evaluating and determining the best application of multiple complex helping systems, various professions, and organizations; how they affect child and family welfare; and the multiple uses of such systems, professions, and organizations to deliver services.
  • Assessing, intervening, and providing therapeutic intervention.
  • One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level.
  • Professional knowledge of clinical social work or marriage and family therapy practices, principles, and theories to carry full professional responsibility for cases involving a wide range of psychosocial, and environmental issues.
  • Knowledge in the organization, management, and administration of child and family welfare services to participate in program planning and in the development and maintenance of public understanding and sound working relationships with local agencies and community agencies.
  • Knowledge of a wide array of problems and disorders of children and families, and the varied resources needed to treat them.
  • Skill and ability to directly apply professional diagnostic skills to individuals and families.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional advisory services and training to other health care professionals, installation personnel, and community agencies concerning secondary prevention programs.
  • Serves as community liaison with military and civilian agencies.
  • Works independently as a licensed clinical provider and uses advanced concepts, principles, procedures, practices, professional knowledge and sound judgment executing the clinical component of the FAP IAW program requirements and accepted standards of professional conduct.
  • Independently performs crisis intervention services to ensure the safety of, and prevent further harm to, victims of family maltreatment.
