About The Position

You will serve as an INTERDISCIPLINARY ENGINEER in the HYDRAULICS & PNEUMATICS BRANCH, AIR SYSTEMS GROUP, AIR VEHICLE ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, SUBSYSTEMS DIVISION of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV. The duty location of this position is Patuxent River, MD.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Functional Area and Tier assigned to the position, along with Continuous Learning (CL) points, are required within established timeframes.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
  • You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-11) grade level or pay band (DP-03) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing technical recommendations related to Hydraulic systems for the purpose of technical improvements, qualification requirements, and operational risk mitigation; 2) Overseeing the functioning of, as well as the qualification and verification of hydraulic and/or other subsystem components; 3) Working individually or as part of a group to propose solutions to acquisitions and sustainment problems while being conscious of cost, schedule, and risks; 4) Managing competing workload priorities and effectively communicating engineering bandwidth; and 5) Demonstrating a thorough understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic concepts, components, systems, schematics, and/or engineering documentation and specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
  • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
  • Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.

  • Provide risk acceptance procedures for aviation hardware to characterize and accept risk.
  • Use industry specifications such as SAE specs, MIL standards, and MIL-HDBK-516 requirement.
  • Identify and solve a wide variety of complex problems with many competing objectives, variables and constraints.
  • Deliver optimized technical solutions that are balanced to achieve required technical performance within cost, schedule and technology constraints.
  • Identify, analyze, communicate, and mitigate engineering safety risks across the system life cycle.
  • Provide structured, safety centered responses to address technical issues without compromising minimum airworthiness requirements.
  • Provide a structured, repeatable approach for managing simultaneous urgent requests while protecting safety, quality, and customer commitments.
  • Provide a comprehensive, structured response that protects airworthiness while helping the program establish a documented, technically defensible path forward.
  • Develop, review, execute, approve, and/or manage functional test, maintenance, qualification, acceptance, troubleshooting, or verification procedures for aircraft hydraulic and pneumatic hardware.
