About The Position

Allied World’s Inland Marine division provides flexible and comprehensive insurance solutions for the logistics, construction, and energy industries. Underwriters tailor coverage to customers’ unique needs and address midterm changes to business operations, such as organic growth, acquisitions, and new contracts. The role performs account analysis, develops pricing and coverage structures, prepares underwriting documents, and works with brokers, clients, legal staff, and senior management. Travel for client meetings and broker visits throughout the assigned region is required.

Requirements

Excellent communication skills, both internally and externally.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Minimum 2 years of inland marine and/or auto underwriting experience; broking experience will be considered. The posting states 5+ years for the Senior Underwriter/AVP position.
Bachelor’s degree.
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
Willingness to travel for client meetings and broker visits throughout the assigned region.

Responsibilities

Perform account analysis according to Allied World Inland Marine guidelines.
Develop account pricing and structure, and make recommendations.
Perform and document referrals.
Prepare quotes, binders, and underwriting worksheets within company guidelines.
Maintain orderly files consistent with company guidelines.
Attend client meetings, lunches, dinners, and other outings as applicable.
Market to brokers within the assigned region and engage in production meetings.
Work with the legal department on manuscript wording analysis and preparation as needed.
Interact with senior management on referral items.
Travel for client meetings and broker visits throughout the assigned region.
