About The Position

This promotional opportunity is limited to current employees of the Louisiana Department of Insurance. Division: Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity/SHIP Division The Louisiana Department of Insurance is seeking a qualified professional to serve as an Insurance Supervisor in the Office of Consumer Advocacy & Diversity, Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIP) Division. This position supervises professional staff and assists with the administration of SHIP, ensuring the effective delivery of consumer assistance, outreach, and education services related to Medicare and other health insurance programs.

Requirements

  • Six years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement: OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus three years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement; OR A bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement; OR An advanced degree plus two years of experience in insurance, administrative services, investigations, or law enforcement.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and leadership to SHIP Insurance Specialists by assigning and monitoring work, reviewing work products, and providing guidance, training, and feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with federal SHIP requirements and related activities involving Medicare, Medicaid, and the State Employees Group Benefits Program.
  • Evaluate and analyze reports regarding industry compliance, negative trends, and unfair insurance practices, and coordinate with other Department offices and divisions to identify appropriate remedies.
  • Meet with insurance company officials, government representatives, community organizations, employer groups, Medicaid counselors, agents, agencies, and private individuals to provide guidance and assistance related to SHIP services.
  • Train counselors to assess individual needs and advise Medicare beneficiaries and senior citizens on available health insurance coverage options.
  • Research and monitor state and federal laws and regulations governing Medicare Supplement coverage, long-term care insurance, and other limited-benefit health insurance products for senior citizens.
  • Prepare correspondence in response to insurance inquiries and assist with drafting legislation, rules, and regulations related to limited-benefit and supplemental health insurance.
  • Manage employee leave requests, time statements, and performance evaluations through the CPM process.
  • Present reports, provide testimony, and respond to questions before legislative committees, professional associations, working groups, and task forces regarding SHIP functions and health insurance issues affecting seniors.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
