About The Position

CSAA Insurance Group is hiring an Insurance Litigation Attorney to independently handle an inventory of litigated and non-litigated files and advise and mentor less senior attorneys. The role is open to litigation attorney levels 1–3, with leveling determined during the interview process. Candidates must be actively licensed and in good standing with the California Bar. The position may be performed remotely anywhere in the United States except Hawaii and Alaska. Travel is required when appropriate for depositions, mediations, mandatory settlement conferences, arbitrations, and trials, as well as occasional in-person team meetings and events.

The attorney prepares discovery, legal pleadings, trial briefs, and other work using independent analysis and judgment, coordinating closely with claims specialists. The attorney appears and advocates for CSAA IG and its member insureds, conducts all phases of personal injury litigation, and handles matters of varying complexity and dollar value, including complex legal matters and projects outside litigation. Issues with major implications, high liability exposure, special circumstances, or departures from guidelines are referred to higher-level staff for review and possible additional resources.

Requirements

• 5–8+ years of experience in insurance defense practice, with courtroom and first- or second-chair trial experience.
• Law degree.
• Active license to practice law in California and good standing with the California Bar.
• Ability to work collaboratively with assigned paralegals and support staff.
• Skill in personal injury litigation, including liability assessment, causation, damages, coverage, personal injury damages and causation, and the tripartite relationship.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an organized and timely manner.
• Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and online research tools.
• Ability to advocate creatively, persuasively, and effectively.
• Ability to think and act independently in a client’s best interest.
• Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of legal ethics.

• Handle complex legal matters and projects, including matters not in litigation.
• Identify matters involving major implications, high liability exposure, special circumstances, or departures from guidelines, and refer them to higher-level staff for review and possible additional resources.
• Travel as appropriate for depositions, mediations, mandatory settlement conferences, arbitrations, trials, team meetings, and other in-person events.
