About The Position

The Insurance Agent is responsible for providing clients with comprehensive insurance solutions tailored to their needs. This position plays a key role in building strong client relationships, identifying coverage needs, and recommending appropriate policies. The Agent specializes in providing his/her clients with insurance policies that protect them against damage, illness, theft or death. Primary objective of this professional is to sell policies that will meet the requirement of the client. The agent is also responsible for growing the agency’s book of business by developing new leads, managing existing accounts, and delivering exceptional service that promotes client satisfaction and retention. He/she needs to obtain new clients and raise the clientele of the organization. An agent is the representative of an insurance company and is considered as the first point of contact. The Insurance Agent responsibilities involve providing information about the various policies to the prospective clients or policy holders or the existing clients, clarifying doubts and convicting them to opt for the right policy that will fulfill their requirement. He/she needs to possess complete information about various products and services of the company, since they have to explain it to the potential client in order to convince them for taking the policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Obtain Insurance license
  • Successful completion of background check
  • Ability to read and interpret policies, procedures, memorandums, etc.
  • Proficient with computers and standard office equipment
  • Ability to present oneself in a clean, professional appearance and demeanor
  • Provide courteous, knowledgeable and professional customer service both in person and on the phone
  • Assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment
  • Display an ability to remain attentive and discreet

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality professional service to all clients and prospects.
  • Greet walk-in customers and other visitors with a warm welcome and a smile.
  • Respond promptly to phone and email inquiries.
  • Identify and assess client needs to recommend suitable insurance coverage options.
  • Calculate premiums of policy and discuss the same with the clients; attend programs, seminars and meetings to learn about new techniques, services and products and acquire mechanical support in creating new accounts
  • Call on clients or policy holders to explain and deliver policy, to change beneficiaries, to estimate insurance program and recommend changes or additions
  • Monitor insurance claims to make certain they are settled rightfully for both the insurer and the client
  • Confer and discuss with clients to provide or receive information when policy claims are made
  • Participate in marketing initiatives, local events, and business development activities to promote agency.
  • Contact underwriters and customize insurance plans that will fulfill the client's needs, often covering multiple risks; ensure that the given policy suits the client's needs, considering any essential medical test and the completion of form correctly
  • Inspect and examine the general condition of the property, age, type of construction, and other characteristics to make decision if it is an appropriate insurance risk
  • Explain features, benefits and demerits of various policies to encourage sale of insurance plan
  • Interview potential clients to acquire data about their needs and financial resources, the physical condition of the person (for life insurance) or property (in case of property insurance) to be insured and know about any existing coverage
  • Opt for a company that offers certain type of coverage requested by the client
  • Maintain accurate records of all client interactions and transactions in agency management system
  • Carry out administrative tasks such as handling policy renewals and maintaining records
  • Promote and sell different types of insurance policies to individuals and businesses on behalf of insurance companies which involve fire, life, automobile, dental and medical insurance or dedicated policies such as farm/crop, marine, and medical malpractice
  • Look for new clients and increase the clientele by developing network to find out prospective clients and new customers
  • Understand the requirement of the customer and request higher authorities to make certain revisions in the insurance plan to meet the client's needs
  • Update their knowledge regarding policy related information such as modifications in the existing products or services or introduction of a totally new product
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve agency sales goals and performance standards
  • Handle confidential information with professionalism & discretion
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
