About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) HAVC 1Q99 Contemporary Issues in the History of Western Art. This course analyzes key issues in the history of Western art, including various ways of looking at the visual past and present, with a focus on the visual arts from prehistory through the early 20th century. The course is scheduled for the Fall Term (Duration 2) and will be delivered fully online synchronously on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. A fully online synchronous course is a conferencing learning environment delivered remotely through audio and video conferencing to provide simultaneous communication between the instructor and students. The compensation for this position is $7,887.59 per half course (195 hours nominally) effective September 1, 2026, and $15,775.20 per full course (390 hours nominally) effective September 1, 2026. Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture or equivalent are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • PhD in Art History is required.
  • Previous university teaching experience in Art History is required.
  • A record of professional research or curatorial work in the field of Art History is required (e.g. publications, conference presentations, exhibitions).
  • Technological expertise and familiarity with Brightspace, the LMS through which this course will be offered.
  • Evidence of competent and effective teaching experience at the undergraduate university level in the area to be taught (e.g. course evaluations, letters of reference, and/or other components of teaching dossier) is required.
  • All qualifications must be met.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
