About The Position

This position provides leadership, coordination, and supervision for Student Support Services, a program under the Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO). The program offers outreach and student services to low-income, first-generation college students and/or students with disabilities to increase their rates of persistence, graduation, and transfer to a 4-year college or university. The role serves as Program Coordinator and Principal Investigator (PI), with responsibilities encompassing fiscal management, staff leadership, program development and evaluation, relationship building, and volunteer oversight.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance, Counseling Psychology, College Student Personnel Services, Human Resources (to include both CTAHR and Personnel), Communications, or related fields; OR Bachelor’s in Counseling and Guidance, Counseling Psychology, College Student Personnel Services, Human Resources (to include both CTAHR and Personnel), Communications or related field, and three (3) years related work experience.
Related fields include: Education (to include all degrees in this field), Family Resources, Human Development, Psychology (to include all degrees in this field), Public Health, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, and Student Services Personnel.

Nice To Haves

Experience providing educational services with a background in designing, managing, or implementing counseling services, program management, and/or program budgeting.
Knowledge of and/or experience designing, implementing, and/or working with TRIO or similar programs that work with underrepresented or underserved populations.
Experience in an administrative capacity that included assisting with the direction of a program and managing a budget.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community groups from various backgrounds.
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
Ability to set priorities and manage sometimes conflicting priorities.
Demonstrated ability and/or experience writing funding requests, program proposals, and other federal, state, and institutional reports.
Knowledge of Section 504 of the Vocational Rehabilitation Act and ADA requirements for disability related accommodations.
Familiarity with and commitment to community college mission and philosophy.

Responsibilities

Direction of fiscal functions in accordance with federal guidelines, institutional procedures, and program goals and objectives.
Developing and managing the program budget, and meeting all federal, state, and institutional operations and reporting requirements.
Staff leadership, including recruiting, orienting, training, supervising, and evaluating staff performance.
Supervising staff who coordinate the selection process for participants and oversee academic needs assessments.
Supervising staff in evaluation procedures and management of the student data base system.
Designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating strategies to promote success and retention among student participants.
Planning and implementing a program using current educational practices, as well as experimental and creative approaches, incorporating instructional technologies and various media in student learning.
Ensuring program objectives are in compliance with the grant proposal.
Establishing and maintaining a network of TRIO and federal relationships.
Initiating and maintaining effective partnerships on campus with staff and faculty and off campus with the broader community supportive of the educational and social advancement of the target group.
Overseeing volunteers and coordinating with advisory councils to develop and enhance planning and program strategies.
Program activities include counseling and guidance, academic skills assessment, academic tutoring, instruction in basic skills, and financial aid support for qualifying students.
Coordinates with existing campus services to support the needs of program participants.
Performs other duties as assigned.
