About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill an existing vacancy for an Instructor for ARTL 4P01: Creating Social Value from Material Culture – D2. This course, also offered as HAVC 4P01, IADM 4P01, and MLLC 4P01, explores the theory and practice of creating social value from material culture. It covers curatorial and interpretive practices in public institutions focusing on art, human and natural history, and science and technology. Key topics include informal learning theory, authority structures and community engagement, audience segmentation and selection, exhibit design, and collections development within social and political contexts. The course format includes lectures and seminars, with 3 hours of instruction per week. It is a blended course, with in-class sessions on Tuesdays from 13:30 to 15:00 and online asynchronous components.

Requirements

  • Relevant MA, MFA or PhD.
  • Previous teaching experience at the university level in the same subject field is required.
  • Relevant professional experience in the field.
  • Demonstrated teaching competence through previous course evaluations and 3 letters of reference.
  • Demonstrated experience in experiential learning and online teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students.
  • Preparation of lectures.
  • Student consultation.
  • Marking and grading.
  • Course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
  • Responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course for instructors employed in a 2-hour/week lecture or equivalent.
