About The Position

Brock University is seeking to fill an existing vacancy for an Instructor for ARTL 3P02: Dance and Culture – D2. This course explores the cultural, aesthetic, and historical aspects of contemporary dance, from canonical practices to decolonizing approaches. It examines the re-imagined dynamic body and aesthetic expression in the 21st century, including intersections with technology and virtuality. The course format is lectures, 3 hours per week, delivered in a blended format with in-class sessions on Mondays from 17:00-18:30 and online asynchronous components. The compensation for this position is $7,887.59 per half course (nominally 195 hours) or $15,775.20 per full course (nominally 390 hours), effective September 1, 2026. Instructors teaching a 2-hour/week lecture or equivalent are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • Relevant MA, MFA or PhD.
  • Demonstrated scholarship or experience understanding and teaching spectatorship, aesthetics, and contemporary critical theorization of diverse forms of artistic expression, with a focus on dance and culture.
  • Previous teaching experience at the university level in the same subject field is required.
  • Demonstrated teaching competence through previous course evaluations and 3 letters of reference.
  • Demonstrated experience in experiential learning and online teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration
  • Handling grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty
