About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy in the CUPE4207-1 (Employee Group) ARTL 1P96: Language for the Arts: Introduction – D2. This course focuses on the development of writing skills through the reporting of arts and culture, with examples potentially including photography, visual arts, new media art, performance, music, and dramatic arts. The course format is lectures/seminar, 3 hours per week, and is fully online and asynchronous. Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent of a 2-hour/week lecture, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Requirements

  • Relevant MA or PhD in subjects of the Fine and Performing Arts and/or Writing for the Arts or similar.
  • Must possess an understanding of the interdisciplinary connections between the arts.
  • Previous or current experience as a writer in the for-profit or not-for-profit sector.
  • Previous teaching experience at the university level in the same subject field is required.
  • Demonstrated teaching competence through previous course evaluations and three letters of reference.
  • Demonstrated experience in experiential learning and online teaching.
  • Demonstrated competence in teaching large classes (100 and over).

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience in STAC/ARTL 1P96 or STAC/ARTL 1P97 preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduled contact time with students
  • Non-classroom time including preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.
