About The Position

Instructional Assistant IIIs support students with severe emotional disturbances. This role involves working with students who have learning handicaps or communicative handicaps, or students designated as emotionally disturbed, in an autism class, or assigned to a behaviorist for individual assistance. The position requires experience working with groups of children and is highly desirable for those with experience working with impaired children or adults. Coursework in child development is also highly desirable.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Passing score from San Juan Unified School District's Proficiency Exam (April 2005 to current) OR Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
  • Passing the IA Proficiency Test or having the CBEST is required, regardless of educational background.
  • Experience working with groups of children.
  • Experience working with impaired children or adults (highly desirable).
  • Coursework in child development (highly desirable).
  • Possession of, or willingness and ability to obtain a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire or before driving any equipment/vehicle requiring this license (in some programs).
