About The Position

Instructional Assistant IIIs support students with severe/emotionally disturbed needs. This role involves working with students who have a Learning Handicap or Communicatively Handicap programs, or students designated as an emotionally disturbed (ED) class, an autism class, or assigned to a Behaviorist to assist individual students. The ideal candidate will possess a combination of experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job duties effectively. Experience working with groups of children and with impaired children or adults is highly desirable, as is coursework in child development.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Passing score from San Juan Unified School District's Proficiency Exam (April 2005 to current) OR Official passing score from the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST).
  • Passing the IA Proficiency Test or having the CBEST is required, regardless of educational background.
  • Experience working with groups of children.
  • If degree/transcripts are from a foreign college or university, coursework must be evaluated for equivalency to a degree/transcripts from an accredited U.S. college or university.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with impaired children or adults.
  • Coursework in child development.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a valid California Class C Driver License within 30 days of hire or before driving any equipment/vehicle requiring this license.
