About The Position

Southern Irrigation is actively seeking a motivated and reliable individual to join our team in a logistics-focused role, with a clear opportunity to advance into a sales position for our Medicine Hat location. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, helping customers, and wants to build a long-term career in the irrigation and water systems industry. The Inside Sales – Irrigation Specialist helps increase sales and profitability by providing knowledgeable, reliable service to customers. Most customer communication will take place by phone and email, although some in-person customer visits may also be required. The successful candidate will build strong customer relationships, provide technical irrigation advice, prepare quotes, process orders, and follow up on sales opportunities.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of irrigation products, systems, and basic irrigation design principles.
  • Previous inside sales experience, preferably within the irrigation industry.
  • Ability to understand customer needs and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Working knowledge of pricing, costs, margins, markups, and currency exchange.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to understand situations from the customer’s point of view.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and time-management skills.
  • Comfortable using CRM and sales-order software.
  • An understanding of how customers evaluate cost, value, and return on investment.
  • Punctual, dependable, knowledgeable, and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with customers.
  • Work toward agreed sales and profit-margin goals.
  • Continue developing product knowledge and irrigation application expertise through training and industry certifications.
  • Communicate clearly, share knowledge, mentor others, and assist team members, departments, and other locations when needed.
  • Provide each customer with personal, knowledgeable, and efficient service.
  • Take ownership of important customer accounts and build relationships through regular communication and occasional in-person visits.
  • Learn about customers’ businesses and projects so you can recommend the right products and solutions.
  • Answer customer questions by phone and email.
  • Prepare quotes, process sales orders, and follow up with customers.
  • Use customer relationship management software to create leads, track opportunities, record customer information, and follow up on purchases.
  • Track quote success rates and record why quotes were won or lost.
  • Report sales trends and customer feedback to the sales lead.
  • Attend product training and industry seminars throughout the year.
  • Complete relevant industry certifications when training and testing are available.
  • Work closely with teammates to share knowledge, mentor less-experienced employees, and help manage workload.
