The Initial Grinder Operator assembles and tears down equipment for the grinding operation. Setup involves moving a 450-pound screw, installing it in the grinder and locking down its collar, then installing a 50-pound grinder head and tightening it with a 20-pound wrench. Teardown is normally required three times per shift. At the beginning of each shift, the operator assembles the screw augers and installs auger covers weighing approximately 40 pounds each. Throughout the shift, the operator records combo and total weights and communicates fill information to supervisors and leads. The operator monitors metal detection equipment and documents quality assurance results in shop tool software three times daily. The role also requires entering product codes and weights into an HMI screen for batch documentation, and inspecting meat for foreign objects by turning cuts before they enter the Initial Grinder. When conveyor jams occur, the operator clears them with a pitchfork by removing meat from behind the metal detector and plow as needed. The operator may assist with LBT grinding and dumping to cover breaks or absences. This includes removing cardboard from frozen trim and LBT, and dumping 60-pound LBT blocks and 70-pound trim blocks. The operator must keep pace with the line, with a standard production rate of 22 fills, or approximately 130,000 pounds, per day. The successful candidate must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. This position is slated for team members currently working at this facility or complex; those at another Tyson facility should express interest through their local HR Partner.
