About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineer. This individual will be responsible for the review, validation, and technical support related to the design, construction, and operation of tunnels excavated using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). The role involves coordinating technical activities between disciplines, performing engineering analyses, supporting construction teams, and ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards on major tunnel and metro projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • 6+ years of experience in structural-tunnel engineering, with a focus on concrete structures.
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and procedures related to structural design, analysis, and construction.
  • Experience with structural analysis and design software tools such as SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, OpenSees, ANSYS, VT2.
  • Good knowledge of Canadian/American design codes and standards, including seismic design and detailing requirements (CSA S6, AASHTO LRFD, AREMA, ACI, AISC, NBCC, CSA A23.3, CSA S16, MTQ).
  • Member in good standing of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec, or eligibility to obtain it within one year.
  • Excellent command of French and English, both oral and written, to ensure effective communication for mandates carried out outside of Quebec.

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex structural analyses and simulations using advanced software tools to design and validate precast segmental tunnel linings and shotcrete/bolted ground support.
  • Provide engineering services during construction, including reviewing and ruling on shop drawings, contractor calculations, test reports, non-conformance (NC) repair methods, and requests for deviation, monitoring support activities (NC/NCR, deficiencies), and processing change requests (CR) and engineering directives (ED).
  • Participate in site visits: write site visit reports, attend stop points, conduct inspections, etc.
  • Review and rule on all technical data sheets.
  • Update specifications, calculations, BIM models, and design plans following change requests (CR).
  • Work closely with contractors and construction teams to ensure designs are implemented correctly and to resolve any design issues that arise during construction.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to present and discuss designs and project progress.
  • Provide technical guidance to other project team members, including project managers.
  • Mentor engineers with less experience.
