About The Position

The Infrastructure Specialist (Cisco Network Technician) installs Edge networking equipment across the State of Nebraska and assists State of Nebraska Network Engineers with maintaining and troubleshooting existing Edge network infrastructure. The role provides intermediate technical support for installing, operating, troubleshooting, and repairing Edge network hardware, and coordinates networking projects across multiple agencies, including installations and decommissions.

The position evaluates network systems to identify patching and upgrade needs and analyze future technical requirements. It also develops and maintains procedures and processes, creates documentation, and assists clients and other information technology employees. The work is performed with a team of network engineers. Standard hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM during the day; after-hours work and overnight stays may be required.

Requirements

• Intermediate knowledge of information technology theory, principles, and practices.
• Knowledge of Edge routing and switching.
• Working knowledge of computer hardware, software, and local and wide area network systems.
• Knowledge of client/server network protocols and Internet/Intranet applications.
• Knowledge of data-network troubleshooting and troubleshooting tools.
• Skill in delivering responsive, quality customer service.
• Ability to write clear and concise documentation of systems and procedures.
• Ability to communicate with vendors and other stakeholders.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects across an enterprise network.
• Ability to read, understand, and apply information from technical manuals.
• Valid driver's license.
• Required experience installing and configuring Cisco 1111 and 9000 series routers; the listing describes the competency level as novice (1–3 years).
• Required experience installing and configuring Cisco APs and Wireless Controllers; the listing describes the competency level as novice (1–3 years).
• Required experience installing and configuring Cisco Catalyst 3650 and 9000 series switches; the listing describes the competency level as novice (1–3 years).
• Required experience installing and configuring Fortinet FortiGate firewalls; the listing describes the competency level as novice (1–3 years).
• Required experience installing and configuring large-scale Edge Network equipment; the listing describes the competency level as novice (1–3 years).

• Working knowledge of enterprise network devices.
