About the position
As the Infrastructure Engineering Manager at Arc Institute, you will be responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining computing systems that support cutting-edge scientific research. Working closely with Core Investigators and Tech Centers, you will utilize your expertise to manage vendors, consultants, and cloud providers to ensure that Arc has world-class infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to build the infrastructure technology stack from the ground up, catering to the needs of sophisticated users. Additionally, there is potential for growth into a managerial position.
Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive strategy, roadmap, and budget for computational infrastructure at Arc that meets current and future needs
- Learn or build on an understanding of the research, data, and computational use cases in Arc’s focus areas
- Collaborate closely with Arc’s science and operations teams to enable world-class research and results
- Build and deploy on-prem, cloud, and orchestration resources that efficiently and effectively support our research paths
- Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of our infrastructure and applications
- Collaborate with other Operations teams to optimize workflows and processes
- Manage key vendors, consultants, and cloud providers to ensure world-class infrastructure
- Develop large-scale data processing workflows that synchronize across on-prem and cloud environments
- Implement scheduled and on-demand GPU-accelerated workloads for ML training and validation
- Design and implement data ingestion and pipelines from scientific instruments to storage and analysis
- Establish data lake/warehousing/cold storage solutions
- Develop analytics tooling and reporting capabilities
- Manage user access and permissions
- Implement comprehensive metrics, monitoring, and alerting systems for infrastructure availability and scalability
Requirements
- Experience in building, deploying, and maintaining computing systems for scientific research
- Ability to collaborate closely with Core Investigators and Tech Centers
- Knowledge of managing key vendors, consultants, and cloud providers
- Familiarity with large scale data processing workflows across on-prem and cloud environments
- Proficiency in GPU-accelerated workloads for ML training and validation
- Understanding of data ingestion and pipelines from scientific instruments to storage and analysis
- Experience with data lake/warehousing/cold storage
- Knowledge of analytics tooling and reporting
- Ability to manage user access and management
- Proficiency in implementing comprehensive metrics, monitoring, and alerting for infrastructure availability and scalability
- Strong ability to build and maintain relationships and work collaboratively
- Strategic thinking and ability to develop a comprehensive strategy, roadmap, and budget for computational infrastructure
- Familiarity with research, data, and computational use cases in the field of computational biology
- Proficiency in building and deploying on-prem, cloud, and orchestration resources
- Knowledge of ensuring scalability, reliability, and security of infrastructure and applications

- Competitive base salary range ($168,500 - $211,500)
- Eligibility for annual discretionary bonus based on individual and institute performance factors
