About The Position

The USPTO's Office of the Chief Information Officer, Enterprise Infrastructure Delivery Office, Cloud and Network Services Division is hiring an Information Technology Specialist to support secure, reliable, and innovative infrastructure. The role contributes to cloud and network services, engineering platforms, systems architecture, storage, firewalls, and other critical technology capabilities. The physical worksite is in Alexandria, Virginia, and in-person attendance is required for onsite functions. Situational telework may be available in accordance with agency policy and business-unit discretion; the agency currently allows 52 hours of telework per leave year.

At the GS-09 level, the position assists with plans for efficient cloud storage, lifecycle management, operational support, and AI enablement; participates in strategic planning and cloud tenant support; helps develop and maintain cloud platform solutions; assists with deploying, implementing, and monitoring cloud products; and supports cloud service availability and secure operations.

At the GS-11 level, the position provides technical support for cloud services and architectures and assists with cloud projects from planning through completion. It supports cloud storage, lifecycle management, operational support, cloud platform plans, and tenant operations; applies established policies, procedures, and standards to cloud governance; and coordinates with cloud service providers on implementation and routine operational needs.

Applicants must meet the applicable OPM qualifications and specialized-experience requirements for the grade. Education may not substitute for specialized experience at these grade levels. The role is a moderate-risk Public Trust position and requires a background investigation and fingerprint check. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals and meet other federal employment conditions described in the announcement.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship or nationality.
• Meet the OPM qualification requirements and the specialized-experience requirements for the advertised grade; requirements must be met by the announcement closing date.
• GS-09: One year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07, including experience supporting development, deployment, configuration, monitoring, or troubleshooting of cloud applications and services, such as AWS compute, storage, databases, or serverless services.
• GS-09: Experience using programming, scripting, automation, infrastructure-as-code, or CI/CD tools to support cloud operations; examples include Python, Java, React, Terraform, CloudFormation, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
• GS-09: Experience applying established cloud security, governance, and operational procedures, such as access controls, configuration standards, change management, and system monitoring.
• GS-11: One year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to GS-09, including compiling stakeholder business and technical requirements and developing AWS cloud solutions while supporting cloud services and data-driven mission requirements; examples of relevant technologies include Python, Java, React, Terraform, CloudFormation, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
• GS-11: Experience providing technical support for cloud services, architecture, and related projects, such as cloud migrations, application deployments, infrastructure implementations, or system integrations.
• GS-11: Experience applying cloud security, governance, and operational requirements, such as identity and access management, vulnerability remediation, compliance controls, configuration baselines, and incident-response procedures.
• Pass a background investigation and fingerprint check; the position is designated Public Trust, moderate risk.
• Register for Selective Service if applicable.
• Complete a one-year probationary period if required.
• Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.

Responsibilities

• Participate in strategic planning for the development, revision, and management of cloud platforms and provide cloud tenant support.
• Assist in developing and maintaining cloud platform solutions that meet requirements and mission needs.
• Assist with deployment, implementation, and monitoring of cloud-based products to support continuity, availability, and secure operations.
• Support and monitor activities that help maintain availability of cloud services.
• Provide technical support for cloud services and architectures and assist with cloud-based projects from planning through completion.
• Support cloud storage, lifecycle management, operational support, and related cloud service activities under higher-level staff guidance.
• Assist in implementing cloud platform plans and supporting cloud tenant operations.
• Apply established policies, procedures, and standards to cloud service activities and support cloud governance processes.
• Coordinate with cloud service providers to support service implementation and routine operational needs.
