About The Position

The City of Placentia is seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join its Information Technology Division as an Information Technology Specialist. This role supports the division by providing technical assistance, system implementation, maintenance, debugging, monitoring system performance, responding to complex user support problems, and performing technical tasks related to information technology services and programs. The work schedule is a 4/10, Monday - Thursday, 7:15 a.m. - 6:15 p.m. The filing deadline is August 23, 2026.

Requirements

  • An associate degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field and three years of experience in information technology systems or network administration.
  • Valid, current driver’s license for travel to other city locations to perform duties

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and maintains complex enterprise network systems; monitors and maintains servers; ensures system integration for operability across multiple platforms and technologies.
  • Participates in enterprise systems security; installs system security hardware, software, and related devices; monitors security systems to identify any breaches; activities procedures and responses to system security issues; provides recommendations to mitigate risk.
  • Creates and manages employee access to computer systems, email, and various applications; sets and resets employee passwords; audits employee usage of technology and equipment to ensure compliance with City policies and procedures.
  • Receives and manages work orders; troubleshoots and resolves enterprise system software, hardware, workstation, server, database, peripherals, and infrastructure issues.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of technology-related protocols, policies, procedures, and operating standards.
  • Performs regular scheduled operations and data backups, including monitoring and updating system file limits and capacities as needed, and collaborates with consultants and vendors to ensure optimal network settings.
  • Responds to emergencies to decrease downtime, repair errors, and monitor vendor activity in the event of catastrophic system failures, off-hours scheduled maintenance downtime, or other issues.
  • Communicates system status, computer events, and planned upgrades or downtime to end users.
  • Develops documentation for new or current applications and procedures.
  • Serves as a Server Administrator and Exchange Directory Administrator for Windows Operating Systems; assesses and resolves basic issues regarding detected error codes.
  • Conducts research and stays current on new trends and innovative solutions for technology programs; recommends new technologies to improve operational technology effectiveness and services.
  • May act as a liaison with local and state agencies and vendors in the development and implementation of programs, policies, guidelines, and service levels.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the City.
