About The Position

The Information Technology Generalist 1 for the Department of Corrections plays a key role in keeping essential systems running at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Chester. This position supports users and ensures that equipment and software function smoothly each day. It offers steady challenges that help you build your technical confidence. This position supports computer systems, software, and network operations throughout the institution to ensure users can perform their work effectively. The role helps maintain reliable technology and provides hands on assistance with daily IT needs.

Requirements

  • Three years of information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, networking or desktop services, web site development or web site design, or other information technology support/administration services; or One year as an Information Technology Trainee or Information Technology Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or One year of information technology experience in applications development or applications maintenance, networking or desktop services, web site development or web site design, or other information technology support/administration services, and an associate's degree in any information technology field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff and inmates with computer hardware, software, and file transfers while identifying technology needs
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, run diagnostic tools, and coordinate solutions with technical staff or vendors
  • Set up and install computers, software, and network components according to agency requirements
  • Track computer equipment, update records, and complete annual inventory reviews
  • Troubleshoot connectivity issues, support LAN operations, and help maintain reliable network performance
  • Provide instruction on hardware, software, and new systems for users throughout the institution
