About The Position

The Industrial Cleaner maintains the shipyard’s cleanliness through trash and debris removal, tank and confined-space cleaning, pressure washing components, and landside spill response. The role involves general labor duties with the industrial cleaning team, including connecting and breaking down equipment using proper tools and procedures, and cleaning work areas and equipment after tasks are complete. The employee is expected to uphold quality standards, comply with applicable federal, state, and company regulations, and conduct work professionally and safely. The position requires working outdoors in all types of weather, extensive walking, and maneuvering on steps and ladders, including climbing. Candidates must be able to work at extreme heights and in small confined spaces, perform varied physical movements, lift at least 40 pounds, pass a respirator fit test and a Physical Agility Test, and work the assigned shift according to production needs. U.S. citizenship is required. This is a third-shift position at Newport News Shipbuilding; telework is not available, and relocation assistance is not offered.

Requirements

U.S. citizenship is required.
Able to lift at least 40 pounds.
Able to work at extreme heights and in small confined spaces.
Able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
Able to work outdoors in all types of weather and walk extensively, including maneuvering on steps and ladders.
Must pass a respirator fit test.
Must pass a Physical Agility Test.
Must be able to work the assigned shift as production needs.

Nice To Haves

High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Forklift, uni-loader/bobcat, and/or other mobile equipment experience preferred.

Responsibilities
