About The Position

This role focuses on supporting individuals experiencing homelessness to reclaim their lives by providing a hand up, offering opportunities for health and self-sufficiency, and restoring hope and dignity. The Independent Living Specialist will work with clients to address their varied needs, including securing entitlements, gainful employment, and housing, while helping them build daily living skills for successful independent living.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel.
  • CPR training certification or willingness to complete certification training in CPR.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities a plus.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homeless preferred.
  • Experience with conducting outreach, securing entitlements and housing, and knowledge of mental illness and substance abuse helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of assigned caseload.
  • Meeting with clients on a regular basis.
  • Ensuring that all clinical files and reports are complete and up to date.
  • Engaging individuals in a client-centered approach.
  • Providing services and referrals to address the varied needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Securing entitlement, gainful employment, and housing.
  • Managing conflict or challenging behaviors with self-awareness, emphasizing client autonomy and safety.
  • Helping to build clients' daily living skills to ensure successful independent living.
  • Completing intakes and assessments.
  • Completing all required documentation, including psychosocials, progress notes and treatment plans.
  • Escorting clients to various appointments, as needed.
  • Participating in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
  • Providing emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed.
  • Related duties as assigned.
