About The Position

We are seeking a reliable, patient, and attentive Independent Living Services (ILS) Instructor to provide one-on-one afternoon support for an individual with Mild Intellectual Disability and Epilepsy. Services will focus on increasing independence in daily living skills, community navigation, and household responsibilities. This role aims to help a young person become more independent. Primary Goals of Support include improving personal hygiene and self-care routines, supporting safe and confident community navigation, assisting with household chores and organization, and developing meal preparation and meal planning skills.

Requirements

  • Two forms of valid identification
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Live Scan fingerprint clearance
  • Current TB test clearance

  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, epilepsy, or visual impairment
  • Strong communication, observation, and problem-solving skills

  • Comfortable providing hands-on support while promoting independence

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance and support with personal hygiene routines
  • Encourage independence while offering assistance as needed
  • Help establish consistent daily routines
  • Assist with cleaning, organizing, and maintaining the home
  • Break tasks into manageable steps to support success
  • Adapt methods to accommodate visual impairment
  • Support planning simple, nutritious meals
  • Assist with safe meal preparation and kitchen navigation
  • Adapt cooking tasks to ensure accessibility and safety
  • Provide guidance and supervision during community outings
  • Assist with safely navigating environments, particularly unfamiliar or high-traffic areas
  • Offer orientation support and mobility assistance as needed
  • Provide additional guidance to safely navigate environments due to visual impairment
  • Provide orientation support, mobility assistance, or introduce adaptive strategies or technology (e.g., tactile organization systems or GPS tools designed for visually impaired individuals) for navigation and safety
  • Assist with reading mail, organizing household items, or supporting the use of voice-activated or accessibility-focused technology for communication and accessibility
  • Undergo additional training or preparation to ensure effective, safe, and respectful services for adapted training needs
