About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to determine the eligibility of applicants for the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) Program, periodically review such eligibility determinations, and authorize FNS benefits to those certified as eligible. The employee is responsible for the entire process of determining and/or redetermining applicant/client eligibility for the FNS program, which includes intake, processing, and review functions. This involves interviewing clients, reviewing electronically collected data, entering information into a web-based application, determining and verifying eligibility, completing scheduled reviews, explaining program requirements, and referring clients to other services as appropriate. The work requires performing various activities during each phase of the eligibility determination process using a state-interconnected web-based application. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential, and the position must be available during working hours to provide necessary services to eligible clients. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration, Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum.
  • OR Graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program.
  • OR Graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Determining the eligibility of applicants for the FNS Program.
  • Periodically reviewing eligibility determinations.

  • Conducting intake, processing, and review functions for FNS program eligibility.
  • Interviewing clients and reviewing electronically collected data (e.g., ePASS).
  • Entering information into a web-based application to complete initial applications and verify data.
  • Determining and verifying eligibility using a web-based application.
  • Completing scheduled reviews by obtaining and processing updated information.
  • Explaining program requirements and options to clients.
  • Advising or referring clients to other appropriate services.
  • Obtaining pertinent data concerning clients' family composition, finances, employment, and health status.
  • Processing clients' applications through verification of all obtained information.
  • Redetermining or reviewing clients' cases periodically to re-verify eligibility for continued participation in services.
