About The Position

Anthropic’s Safeguards team helps ensure its AI systems are deployed safely, responsibly, and in line with the company’s values. The Incident Manager manages Safeguards incidents involving AI systems from declaration through closure: assessing severity, coordinating responders across Legal, Communications, Policy, Threat Intelligence, Security, Engineering, and research, keeping leadership informed, and ensuring follow-up work is completed. The role also oversees the Safeguards Enforcement on-call queue on a rotating basis and helps build and scale the incident response program through runbooks, post-incident reviews, and automation of routine work. The position involves hands-on queue work and rotating after-hours and weekend incident coverage. The role may expose the employee to explicit content across a range of topics, including violent, sexual, or psychologically disturbing material. Anthropic currently expects staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time, although some roles may require more office time. The role requires a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. The required field of study is a field relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience. Years of experience required correlate with internal job-level requirements. The annual salary range is $245,000–$285,000 USD.

  • Ability to make clear decisions under time pressure, document reasoning, and recognize when a decision belongs to Legal, Policy, or leadership.
  • Ability to write short, accurate updates that executives can act on and that can withstand legal and external scrutiny.
  • Experience coordinating people across multiple functions who do not report to you, securing their commitments, and following through.
  • Experience independently improving an operational process and distinguishing steps that require human judgment from those that can be automated.
  • Willingness to perform hands-on queue work regularly and use it to identify operational problems.
  • Ability to participate in rotating after-hours and weekend incident coverage.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
