About The Position

As an Immigration Case Worker / Legal Assistant - Afghan at Somali Bantu Association of America, you will play a vital role in providing support and guidance to Afghan refugees as they navigate the complex immigration system. You will be responsible for extensive outreach to local Afghan community populations conducting assessments, developing individualized service plans, and connecting clients to free legal resources and services to support their resettlement and integration. Must be fluent in Dari and Pashto and have transportation. Must have immediate availability for 40 hours per week. No overtime allowed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field
  • Previous experience working with refugee populations and/or in immigration case management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Fluency in Dari and Pashto
  • Must have transportation
  • Must have immediate availability for 40 hours per week

Nice To Haves

  • Fluency in Somali, Arabic or other relevant languages

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Lead Immigration Attorney and staff to create an outreach strategy to bring in Afghan clients for free legal aid.
  • Conduct assessments to determine client needs and develop individualized service plans
  • Connect clients to resources and services to support their resettlement and integration
  • Provide advocacy, support, and guidance to clients as they navigate the complex immigration system
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes and documentation
  • Collaborate with the USCRI Office and any other immigration related translation service providers and community partners to ensure clients receive comprehensive support
