About The Position

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) and the Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) offer paid summer undergraduate internships intended to create opportunities for a diverse body of undergraduates, including students from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue advanced study and careers in marine and environmental science. The internship consists of a nine-week research project in environmental, microbiology, molecular, estuarine, or marine sciences. Interns gain laboratory experience and participate in seminars, workshops, and professional development. The internship is full time, Monday through Friday, from June 7, 2027, through August 6, 2027. It is an hourly position paying $16.00 per hour and does not qualify for State of Maryland health benefits. Applicants must be undergraduate students in a related major and have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Applications are accepted from October 19, 2026, through February 1, 2027. Requirements

Be an undergraduate student majoring in a field related to biological, molecular, microbial, environmental, or marine sciences, among other related disciplines.
Have a GPA of 3.0 or above.
Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
