This role identifies, analyzes, and resolves problems within Radiology reading rooms, ensuring all patient images and information are available for physician review. The specialist will utilize PowerShare and Life Image applications to integrate patient images into the Radiology PACS system, cover phones and physician requests for all modality reading rooms, and manage Radiology reading room protocols. Responsibilities include contacting requesting physicians, obtaining information from Powerchart, utilizing PACS for prior studies, checking RIS for prior reports, and ensuring report documentation. The role also oversees and coordinates radiology quality assurance activities governed by the ACR, develops quality measures and standards, monitors departmental performance, and ensures physicians are reminded of compliance. The specialist ensures studies are readily available on PACS, burns images to CD, assists with med school lectures by finding articles online, and prints reports for physicians for conferences. Additionally, the role directs record-keeping activities, interprets regulations, establishes filing and auditing procedures, and ensures compliance with HIPAA and departmental policies, informing physicians of changes. Coordination of equipment service needs, training of residents on new equipment and applications, and ensuring these activities do not disrupt patient services are also key functions. The specialist works with IS to ensure data systems support QA activities and that technology provides optimal diagnostic information and throughput. Maintaining inventory, developing and evaluating cost containment programs for supplies and equipment, and utilizing applications to provide preliminary reports and correct patient reports are also part of the role. Daily equipment checks and maintenance of powerscribe workstations, placing reports in a batch queue, and correcting status on error log reports are required. The role involves using the Picture Archiving System for image retrieval, distribution, CD creation, film digitization, film printing, and auditing patient data. Verifying patient procedures in the Radiology Information System, checking exam status for final reports, merging patient data for duplicate patients, verifying patient schedules, tracking patients, and assisting technologists with data management are also responsibilities. Gathering data for patients outside Emory Healthcare Systems, regularly communicating operational changes to physicians, seeking physician input for improvements, and communicating potential issues and opportunities to management are crucial. The specialist will coordinate workflow and image transfers with other facilities and assist physicians in providing image interpretation and documentation of studies, evaluating data from outside sources and coordinating effective transfer of information.
