The IEP Facilitator is responsible for organizing and managing the IEP process and documentation in assigned schools. This role chairs IEP Team meetings, accepts referrals, and assists in gathering and organizing pertinent information. The facilitator ensures appropriate participants are invited to meetings, prepares and distributes agendas, and monitors and updates referrals, assessments, and other individual Special Education records. They possess knowledge of IEP assessment timelines and act as a liaison for special education discipline-related problems. The position also assists in identifying the special needs of students and helps regular education teachers with the referral process for special education services. Additionally, the IEP Facilitator interprets special education policy to school-based staff and parents, encourages a healthy school atmosphere, monitors IEPs for compliance, and provides guidance on IDEA, COMAR, and MSDE policy. They also provide professional development for school teams and participate in professional learning opportunities. The role involves reviewing records and initiating communication with other school districts to ensure proper record sharing and maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
