About The Position

The Staff Pad has partnered with a repute hospital in Helena, MT and we are looking for a Telemetry Technician to play a vital role in supporting patient care by continuously monitoring cardiac activity and ensuring the accuracy and functionality of telemetry systems. This position is responsible for observing, interpreting, and documenting cardiac rhythms while promptly communicating significant changes to the healthcare team to support timely clinical intervention, oversee the operation of central monitoring stations and telemetry software systems, maintain monitoring equipment, and ensure uninterrupted cardiac surveillance for patients throughout the unit. The role requires strong attention to detail, critical thinking, technical proficiency, and effective communication skills in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of all mandatory education as required and assigned
  • BLS certification required within six months of hire
  • Telemetry training/certification required within the first year of hire
  • Demonstrates cognitive, organizational, and emotional maturity to effectively manage multiple tasks, deadlines, stress, delegation, and challenging situations
  • Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide respectful, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and customer service
  • Remains open to feedback and adapts well to a dynamic, fast-paced environment, including changes in scheduling, equipment, and departmental assignments

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of hospital experience preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology strongly recommended
  • Previous clerical or receptionist experience preferred
  • Prior telemetry training preferred

Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor patient cardiac rhythms using telemetry systems and central monitoring stations
  • Independently prepare, maintain interpret and document cardiac rhythms and waveform data in patient medical records
  • Document EKG waveform data in patient records, including recording heart rate measurements, PR intervals, and QRS complexes from rhythm strips
  • Identify, recognizing and ensuring recorded rhythm strips are placed on the patient’s chart. Rhythms Include: Normal Sinus Rhythm (NSR), Sinus Bradycardia (SB), Sinus Tachycardia (ST), Asystole, Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT), Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib), Atrial Flutter (A-Flutter), Ventricular Tachycardia (VT)
  • Measure and document heart rate, PR interval, and QRS complexes on rhythm strips.
  • Ensure rhythm strips are accurately recorded, mounted, and placed in patient charts.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to all monitor alarms.
  • Immediately report and document changes in patient heart rate or rhythm to nurses and/or physicians for urgent/ non-urgent intervention
  • Maintain clear, professional, and timely communication with charge nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Document all rhythm and rate changes according to departmental standards.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain telemetry monitoring equipment for the unit.
  • Ensure monitor alarms are properly activated while patients are on telemetry monitoring.
  • Coordinate availability of transmitters, lead cables, and monitoring supplies.
  • Clean and maintain monitoring equipment in accordance with infection control and bioengineering guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot telemetry and monitoring issues by identifying causes and implementing corrective actions or escalating concerns as appropriate.
  • Provide indirect patient care under the direction of the Director or designee and Charge Nurse.
  • Follow established policies and procedures for handling and transporting patient health information.
  • Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and hospital confidentiality policies.
  • Adhere to organizational standards for behavior, professionalism, safety, and patient privacy
  • Assists nursing staff with restocking patient rooms and nurse supply areas.
  • Retrieves blood products and medications from the pneumatic tube system.
  • Orders office supplies, completes work orders and organizes departmental inventory
  • Provides additional support to the Director, Administrator of the Day (AOD), and ICU nursing staff by performing other assigned duties in accordance with the Orientation Competency Inventory (OCI)
