About The Position

This position is located at Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Alexander Correctional is a closed custody male facility with approximately 1,000 beds. The HVAC Supervisor will be responsible for all installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and environmental control systems. The incumbent will plan individual jobs and long-term work operations, develop a preventive maintenance program, and control the quality of repair work. This position will report to the facility Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and up to three years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.

Nice To Haves

Documented knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
Documented supervision and training of other workers.
Documented knowledge of physical refrigeration theory.

Responsibilities

Supervisor and train HVAC Mechanics
Diagnosis and repair various heating and cooling systems including chillers, boilers and water heaters
Diagnosis and repair of commercial walk-in coolers and freezers.
Familiar with electronic and pneumatic building control systems
Experience with commercial kitchen equipment and repair
Work with outside contractors
