About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is seeking an HVAC Mechanic I to provide journey-level work in the areas of Heating/Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Hot Water Supply, Plumbing and Food Service Equipment at a multi-custody female correctional facility. This role involves completing special repairs, identifying problems, determining repair methods, performing preventative maintenance, and potentially training or supervising offender workers. The position reports to the HVAC Supervisor.

Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

Documented knowledge of practices, methods, materials and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Responsibilities

Completing special repairs and assignments that are received by work orders from authorized personnel.
Identifying the cause of a problem and determining materials and tools and method of repair.
Carrying out repair procedures independently on most jobs.
Performing preventative maintenance functions as required and outlined in the preventative maintenance plans.
Training and/or supervising the work of offender workers as needed.
