About The Position

This position serves as a Human Resources Specialist, focusing on Learning & Development Coordination at Kaua'i Community College. The role is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and assessing professional development initiatives for all employee groups, ensuring alignment with the College’s mission and core values. The specialist will design and facilitate various professional development programs, lead the planning of events, and foster a collaborative work culture. Additionally, the role involves program coordination, collaboration with marketing and HR teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory training, and supporting student employment and recruitment processes.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in arts and sciences or related field.
  • Three (3) year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for human resources, organizational development, or professional development.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of professional development programs.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with higher education, human resources, or professional development programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing and Excel software.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage work priorities, projects, and manage employee relations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and assess professional development initiatives for all employee groups, aligning with the College’s mission and core values.
  • Design and facilitate professional development programs using multiple delivery formats, including in-person training, coaching, and web-based learning platforms.
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of professional development events, conferences, recognition programs, and campus-wide engagement activities.
  • Encourage and promote collegiality across campus by organizing activities and workshops that build teamwork, enhance communication, and create a collaborative work culture.
  • Develop and deliver professional development workshops and presentations.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to supervisors and departments on individual and team development planning.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with external training providers, consultants, and professional organizations.
  • Stay current with trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in professional development and adult learning.
  • Track, analyze, and report participation, outcomes, and effectiveness of professional development programs.
  • Oversee the processing and documentation of tuition reimbursement and staff development funding.
  • Coordinate employee engagement initiatives, including team-building activities and employee retention and recognition programs.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to publicize and market professional development opportunities.
  • Design, schedule, implement, and assess comprehensive onboarding programs for new hires.
  • Develop structured processes to support employees in sharing knowledge gained from sabbaticals, conferences, certifications, and other external professional development activities.
  • Collaborate with the grant manager to identify funding opportunities and assist with grant writing, administration, and management.
  • Serve on campus committees and groups, including the Campus Events Committee and the New Employee Workgroup.
  • Monitor and ensure employee compliance with all required institutional and regulatory training programs, including Title IX (TIX), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), and Clery Act trainings.
  • Assist with all aspects of the student employment process, including creating job postings, managing applications, coordinating onboarding, and supporting training for student workers and their supervisors.
  • Support recruitment and selection of vacant positions, including providing guidance on recruitment efforts, reviewing vacancy announcements, conducting committee orientations, and providing guidance on hire actions.
