Requirements

  • Be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Be enrolled in a Canadian university throughout your internship.
  • Be able to work on-site in the province where you are hired if applicable.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in labor relations and HR business partnership.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive situations and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders including managers, employees, and union representatives.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Working knowledge of English to read and understand specialized instructions, plans, drawings and technical terms that may emanate from international organizations, as well as to write and sometimes communicate in English with customers, suppliers or international colleagues.

Nice To Haves

  • Academic coursework or exposure to labor relations or collective bargaining.
  • Previous experience or academic projects related to employee relations or workplace investigations.
  • Interest in working in industrial or operational environments.
  • Bilingualism (French and English).
  • Leadership demonstrated by participation in academic, associative, or community projects.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with HR Business Partners to support leaders and employees in a unionized environment.
  • Provide day-to-day HR support to managers on employee matters, including performance, attendance, conduct, and workplace concerns.
  • Assist in the interpretation and application of the collective agreement and HR policies.
  • Support the management of employee relations files and documentation.
  • Participate in discussions and interactions with union representatives and shop stewards.
  • Support or participate in workplace investigations, including gathering information, documenting findings, and preparing summaries.
  • Contribute to initiatives aimed at improving employee engagement, workplace culture, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Assist in the analysis of HR metrics and employee relations trends to support business decisions.
  • Collaborate with HR and operational leaders on initiatives that support a positive and respectful work environment.
  • Learn how HR Business Partners support leaders in managing teams within a unionized workplace.
  • Gain practical exposure to collective agreement interpretation and labor relations practices.
  • Gain experience supporting employee relations cases and workplace investigations.
  • Learn how HR collaborates directly with business leaders and union representatives to address workplace issues.
  • Gain insight into strategies used to strengthen employee engagement and organizational culture.
  • Develop professional skills including stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving in complex workplace situations.
