About The Position

The City of Iqaluit is looking for an experienced Human Resources Generalist – Employee and Labour Relations Focus with exceptional Human Relations skills to join our team! The Human Resource Generalist – Employee & Labour Relations Focus performs HR generalist duties supporting City staff and day-to-day operations. In this role they will provide resolutions and consulting to maximize the effectiveness and performance of the City’s staff and support City services to the people of Iqaluit. The role supports all aspects of employee and labour relations by coordinating and documenting grievance, disciplinary, and fact-finding processes, ensuring compliance with the collective agreement and applicable legislation. It involves conducting fact-finding investigations, maintaining confidentiality, and collaborating with management to determine appropriate outcomes or corrective actions. The position also serves as an advisory resource to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and collective agreement provisions, while fostering positive workplace relationships through effective communication and mediation. Additionally, it maintains regular contact with union representatives and other stakeholders, tracks compliance data, and supports engagement and retention initiatives to promote a healthy, respectful, and productive work environment.

Requirements

  • A university or college diploma (preferably in Human Resources Management) or professional certification/in progress to achieve CHRP, CHRL and/or CHRE designation required
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in HR with a demonstrated ability to provide recommendations to solve HR related issues (regulations, laws and policies, change management)
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail)
  • Excellent typing skills, (proper spelling and grammar)
  • Ability to use general office equipment
  • Quickly learn new software
  • Data analysis skills
  • Research skills
  • All relevant certifications are required at time of application
  • The successful candidate would be required to submit a Criminal Record Check, as well as an acceptable Driver’s Abstract.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in a unionized environment or education in labour relations preferred
  • Professional experience in a government setting preferred
  • Demonstrated work knowledge of multiple human resource areas preferred
  • Ability to speak Inuktitut
  • An understanding of the local culture and experience living and working in a Northern community is an asset
  • A Valid Drivers License
  • Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered.

Benefits

  • Settlement Allowance: $22,378.25, per annum
