About The Position

Administer the organisation’s labour relations/human resources programs to ensure they are implemented effectively and fairly and that they comply with all relevant collective bargaining agreements, individual employment contracts, regulations, laws, and the organisation’s employment policies and standards. The Labour Relations and Employee Relations Specialist will report directly to the Vice President of Human Resources at Swissport Canada.

Requirements

  • University degree in industrial relations or another relevant field.
  • Experience working in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills in French and English.
  • Willingness to travel across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and enforce the collective bargaining agreement (14) and company policies for all departments (attendance, code of conduct, workplace harassment and violence, drugs and alcohol, etc.)
  • Guide on disciplinary matters for both unionised and non-unionised employees
  • Address complaints or concerns raised by the union
  • Prepare for and participate in labour-management committees
  • Manage and resolve grievances with union representatives
  • Prepare cases for arbitration, working with legal counsel as needed
  • Train management on the collective bargaining agreement, human resources policies, and procedures
  • Prepare the company’s proposals for collective bargaining and participate in those negotiations
  • Participate in collective bargaining negotiations.
  • Update, develop, and implement policies and procedures as needed
  • Contribute to employee satisfaction nationwide by implementing relevant organisational initiatives that build on employee engagement and experience
  • Serve as the custodian and point of contact for all reports intended for all stakeholders (Pay Equity Act, Accessibility Act, Diversity and Inclusion, etc.)
  • Be responsible for all current and future employee initiatives and programs (recognition, milestones, OneApp, Bravo, ID90, etc.)
  • Stay informed about the state of employee relations within the organisation and the industry, and suggest changes and trends.
  • Oversee and participate in the return-to-work program (permanent/temporary and occupational/non-occupational accommodations)
  • Manage return-to-work cases
  • Work closely with the disability management service provider
  • Ensure compliance with various laws and regulatory bodies, including the Canada Labour Code, the Human Rights Code, etc.
  • Represent the company before various government agencies, workers’ compensation boards (WSIB, WorkSafe BC, CNESST, etc.), the Commission, the Human Rights Tribunal, and Transport Canada.
