About The Position

The Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) is seeking a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) for a 14-month contract to join their HR team. The HRBP will provide trusted, day-to-day HR advisory support to assigned client groups. This role involves coaching people leaders, supporting employee and labour relations matters, and ensuring the consistent application of HR policies, collective agreements, and employment legislation. The HRBP will partner closely with leaders and centralized HR functions to support fair, transparent, and effective people practices that contribute to an engaged and high-performing workforce.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3–5 years of progressive HR experience in an advisory or business partner role.
  • Experience advising leaders on employee relations, performance management, and policy interpretation.
  • Experience in a unionized environment, including collective agreement interpretation and grievance processes.
  • Strong knowledge of HR policies, collective agreements, and employment legislation.
  • Strong consultation, communication, and influencing skills without direct authority.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or complex issues.
  • Ability to assess risk and provide practical, context-based HR guidance.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • CHRP or CHRL designation (or in progress) is preferred.
  • Experience partnering with centralized HR functions is an asset.
  • Experience supporting organizational change or restructuring initiatives is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted advisor to people leaders on performance, attendance, accommodations, progressive discipline, and respectful workplace matters.
  • Provide timely, practical HR guidance to support day-to-day people management decisions.
  • Participate in interview panels and advise on fair, equitable, and consistent hiring practices.
  • Provide advisory support during hiring decisions, ensuring alignment with HR policies, collective agreements, and employment legislation.
  • Support the preparation of employee documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Interpret and administer collective agreements for assigned client groups.
  • Provide guidance on the application of HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation.
  • Manage grievance processes end-to-end, including investigation, documentation, and resolution, engaging legal support as needed.
  • Conduct or support workplace investigations related to employee concerns or issues.
  • Advise on complex employee relations matters, including terminations.
  • Support cyclical HR processes such as performance management, talent reviews, and workforce planning.
  • Analyze HR data (e.g., grievances, investigations, exit interviews) and provide insights and recommendations to leaders.
  • Support organizational change initiatives, including restructures and workforce realignment.
  • Apply knowledge of labour relations and organizational context to support sound people decisions.
