About The Position

This is a 6-month contract position, with an anticipated start date of October 5. Preference will be given to candidates who reside in Edmonton, AB. Riva is seeking an HR Assistant to support a people-focused HR team and help create a positive employee experience across recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and day-to-day HR operations. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, approachable, detail-oriented, and excited to contribute to a workplace where people feel welcomed, supported, and connected. Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the HR Assistant will play an important role in supporting employees and helping HR programs run smoothly. You will be involved in full-cycle recruitment, pre-boarding and onboarding, employee communications, documentation, engagement initiatives, and general HR coordination. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in creating a great experience for others, and can balance accuracy with warmth and professionalism. You will work closely with hiring managers, employees, internal teams, and external partners to keep people processes organized, timely, and easy to navigate.

Requirements

  • Experience in human resources, recruitment coordination, administration, people operations, or a related support role.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and details at once.
  • A professional, approachable communication style and a genuine interest in supporting employees and candidates.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and comfort handling confidential information.
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to follow through, ask thoughtful questions, and improve how work gets done.
  • Comfort using HR systems, Microsoft Office, collaboration tools, and digital trackers to stay organized.
  • A collaborative attitude and willingness to support a wide range of HR, culture, and employee experience initiatives.
  • Must hold a valid work permit or be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting full-cycle recruitment or high-volume hiring.
  • Familiarity with HRIS, applicant tracking systems, SharePoint, or employee engagement tools.
  • An interest in employer branding, employee communications, wellness, recognition, or workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment for assigned roles, including intake, job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, candidate communication, offer support, and handoff to onboarding.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand hiring needs and help create a thoughtful, timely, and positive recruitment experience.
  • Support pre-boarding and onboarding so new employees feel welcomed, informed, and ready for their first day.
  • Prepare and maintain HR documentation, employee letters, records, and system updates with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Assist employees with general HR questions and help connect them with the right resources or next steps.
  • Support employee engagement, wellness, recognition, volunteer, and company event initiatives that help strengthen culture and connection.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to keep HR programs, events, and employee initiatives running smoothly.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by helping simplify processes, improve communications, and keep HR tools and trackers organized.
