About The Position

Human Resources Analyst I is an entry-level Human Resources professional responsible for supporting HR operations and employee lifecycle processes within the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office (EBRSO). Working under close supervision, this position performs administrative and transactional HR duties while developing knowledge of HR policies, procedures, systems, and employment practices. The role serves as a developmental position designed to build proficiency across core HR functions while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or progress toward a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; OR
  • One (1) year of clerical, administrative, or office support experience, preferably in Human Resources or a public-sector environment; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by EBRSO.
  • Basic understanding of administrative and recordkeeping practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn HR policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and data entry functions.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with processing personnel actions, including hires, transfers, pay changes, leave actions, and separations.
  • Maintains employee records and personnel files, ensuring documentation is complete, accurate, and properly retained.
  • Supports recruiting and onboarding activities, including applicant communication, document collection, scheduling, and orientation preparation.
  • Assists with benefits administration, Open Enrollment activities, and qualified life event documentation.
  • Updates employee information within HR systems and performs routine audits to identify discrepancies or missing records.
  • Provides basic HR information to employees and supervisors, escalating complex matters as appropriate.
  • Maintains confidentiality of employee information and complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and Sheriff's Office policies.
  • Participates in training, process improvement initiatives, and special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
