About The Position

Responsible for a variety of professional level duties in the Human Resources Department to support County departments in various human resources functional areas pertaining to recruitment, training, special pays and benefits. Processes pay change actions in the system, to include special and incentive pays and prepares personnel action forms. Administers countywide programs such as the Degree Reimbursement. Responsible for the distribution of County employees’ probationary evaluations. Reviews and processes Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) claims and employment verifications. Serves as backup for the inventory of identification badges and associated accessories. Notifies appropriate staff when inventory is low and additional supplies are needed. Maintains a variety of scanned documents and folders in Laserfiche; reviews and ensures quality of imaged documents and files. Creates and uses a variety of forms, spreadsheets, and files to track information for the department. Serves as a backup in assigning new hire training to employees through NEOGOV. Processes employee training applications. Serves as a backup to the recruiter with new hire orientation; assists with new employee identification badges, presents information to new hires, copies and scans necessary documents during onboarding process. Assists with off-boarding process for separating employees. Prepares and mails employee benefit information and employment separation letters as required. Maintains separation tracker, notifies appropriate staff of County separations. Assists with testing, reporting and auditing systems, to include the County’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS). Remains abreast of developments and trends in the human resources field including recruiting, legal compliance, classification and compensation, benefits, and training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources administration, business, public administration, or a closely related field with 1 to 2 years of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment checks to include criminal history, background and DMV record checks.
  • General knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • General knowledge of employment and compensation principles and practices.
  • General knowledge of health and welfare benefits, including procedures for enrollment and special open enrollments.
  • General knowledge of training principles and practices.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change and learn various software programs.
