About The Position

Join the Department of Fish & Game (DFG) Human Resource team to provide technical information, support and assistance to DFG managers and employees. The DFG HR team is a collaborative work environment, that strives to build positive working relationships with our unique workforce. In this position, you’ll gain hands-on experience across a wide range of human resource functions, building both knowledge and practical skills in multiple areas. Under the general supervision of DFG’s HRBP, this position will direct and perform both payroll and recruitment duties. With expertise in both sections, this applicant can provide a greater depth of knowledge, resources and direction for payroll/recruitment related issues. Providing guidance and training to DFG’s Human Resources (HR) Team, admin staff and employees, incorporating the different section rules, regulations, policies and procedures to resolve these interlaced issues. As this position will perform both recruitment and payroll duties, depending on the workflow and seasonal demand, working with the Payroll Supervisor and the HRC Recruitment lead. You’ll join a collaborative HR team that values strong partnerships, problem solving, and service to our uniquely diverse workforce. Your work will help keep DFG running smoothly and ensure our employees are hired, supported, informed, and paid accurately.

Requirements

  • One year of journey technical level human resource experience. This is equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • OR One year of technical level dispatching experience as an Alaska Marine Highway System Dispatcher with the State of Alaska.
  • OR Two years of postsecondary education (64 semester hours or 96 quarter hours equal 2 years) from an accredited college or university in any field.
  • OR Two years in any combination of postsecondary education (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month) from an accredited college or university and human resources experience at the journey technical level. This experience is equivalent to a Human Resource Technician 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • OR Two years in any combination of postsecondary education (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month) from an accredited college or university and technical level dispatching experience. This experience is equivalent to an Alaska Marine Highway System Dispatcher with the State of Alaska.
  • Human resource work includes experience in recruitment and selection, classification, employee training, employer provided benefits programs, employment law compliance, personnel, payroll, or employee or labor relations. Supervision of subordinates does not in itself constitute human resource work.
  • Transcripts, if used to meet minimum qualifications (unofficial copies are accepted).
  • Copies of the last two evaluations.
  • Three professional references with current contact information (phone number or email address).
