About The Position

The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Vice President of Human Resources and is responsible for supporting the day-to day operations of the Human Resources office. The HR generalist performs HR-related duties in the following functional areas: benefits administration, recruitment, onboarding, HRIS data entry, worker’s compensation, and training compliance. The Human Resources generalist plays a vital role in supporting an engaged and effective workplace environment for employees. The HR Generalist works closely with the HR Manager and part-time Human Resources Assistant.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in human resources.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Software skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; capability to generate reports from a human resource information system and other spreadsheets as required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to multi-task, work independently, has attention to detail, able to think critically, problem solving ability, the ability to analyze data and able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorships.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated payroll system preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the HR manager with the daily operations of the human resources office.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for HRIS related inquiries.
  • Responsible for Human Resources related payroll functions, including but not limited to accurate data entry related to employee changes.
  • Support HR manager in ensuring a compliant and accurate bi-weekly payroll process related to HR responsibilities.
  • Reconcile and validate data entry to ensure data integrity and support routine reporting requests.
  • Responsible for handling workers’ compensation for multiple locations; this includes notifying the carrier of injuries/illnesses and completing the OSHA log.
  • Serves as backup Retirement Coordinator for the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System; assists employees with the retirement process.
  • Attend training as needed to maintain active coordinator status.
  • Assists the HR Manager with new-employee orientations/onboarding programs.
  • Assist with open enrollment for benefits.
  • Presents benefit information to employees as needed.
  • Responsible for tracking and processing invoices and employee reimbursements.
  • Coordinates College responses to inquiries about employment-related information including authorized employment verification and requests for separation information, and other reports, surveys, and studies as requested by Federal, State and County agencies and other private or non-profit employers
  • Manages full process recruitment cycle, including serving as the lead for applicant tracking system.
  • Supports committees with recruitment activities including interview coordination, candidate communication, and hiring documentation.
  • Serve as HR liaison on search committees as directed by Vice President of Human Resources.
  • Coordinates with HR Manager, Information Technology and supervisors on onboarding process for employees, including preparing employee credentials, offer letters and assigning onboarding tasks.
  • Prepares reports as directed by Vice President of Human Resources or designee.
  • Serves as tab administrator for employee portal for the HR department.
  • Responsible for ensuring that information on employee portal is accurate, timely and relevant for employees.
  • Promotes employee wellness by coordinating and leading the annual Wellness Fair.
  • Promotes employee engagement by overseeing Employee Appreciation Day.
  • Serve on college wide committees as needed.
  • Attend human resources related training as directed by Vice President of Human Resources.
  • Prepare and analyze reports for internal and external stakeholders as needed to maintain compliance with necessary reporting requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
