About The Position

FIREFLY is seeking a regular full time Intake Worker to support coordinated access to children's services across our region. This role is a critical first point of contact for families and partners, helping ensure timely, compassionate, and well-informed connections to care. As an Intake Worker, you will play a central role in connecting children and families to services across the Kenora and Rainy River districts. You will lead a family-centred intake process, gather information using screening tools, and work collaboratively with families to identify needs, strengths, and service options.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of child and youth development, including physical, mental, social, and behavioural factors.
  • Experience working with children, youth, and families, ideally within community-based services.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills
  • Ability to navigate complex service systems and support families through decision-making
  • Skilled at problem solving, mediation, and managing competing priorities
  • Highly organized with strong time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong documentation, computer, and database management skills
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and confidentiality requirements
  • Comfort using multiple technology systems to support service coordination
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen
  • Ability to manage a reasonable workload with effective prioritization and follow-up
  • Commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and quality service
  • Ability to manage conflict and support problem-solving with families and partners
  • Commitment to supporting a respectful and safe workplace

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Services or related field.
  • Social Services diploma combined with relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of available local and regional services is a strong asset.
  • Cultural awareness, with understanding of First Nation communities considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Answer the centralized intake phone line, receive referrals, and monitor intake email.
  • Facilitate referrals through multiple pathways and ensure smooth access to services.
  • Provide information to families and community partners about available programs and supports.
  • Conduct a family-centred intake process, including informed consent and screening tools.
  • Support families in identifying goals and selecting services that meet their needs.
  • Process referrals and prepare documentation for service coordination and follow-up.
  • Identify interim supports for families while they wait for services.
  • Maintain current knowledge of local and regional services across Kenora and Rainy River districts.
  • Participate in meetings, training, and small projects as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
